When the 2026 edition of the H.C. Andersen Festivals opens on Thursday, August 13 at ODEON, it will do so with the music from a brand-new, spectacular musical about Hans Christian Andersen.

Acclaimed theatre producer Mikkel Rønnow is currently developing the international musical ANDERSEN, based on the life of Denmark’s greatest cultural icon, and already this summer audiences will have the chance to hear most of the score from the upcoming production.

At this musical concert, you can look forward to thrilling new musical theatre music by Danish composer Johannes Steinray, written for full symphony orchestra, rhythm section, soloists and choir. The score is an orchestral and lavish interpretation of both Hans Christian Andersen’s life and selected characters and moments from his many beloved fairy tales.

The songs combine intimate ballads, energetic contemporary musical theatre and moments of breathtaking cinematic grandeur.

On stage, you will experience the Odense Symphony Orchestra together with four of Denmark’s leading musical theatre performers: Caspar Phillipson, Isabel Schwartzbach, Lea Thiim Harder and Anders Gjesing.

The musical concert will be performed on August 13 and 14 at 8:00 PM at ODEON.
